The Newport Youth Project is a partnership between Churches Working Together in Newport and Isle Of Wight Youth for Christ. Peter, our main youth leader, along with a team of volunteers and different churches run various different groups for ages 10-18 in the Newport area.

The project exists to work alongside and support the Newport churches/ministries in their existing youth work and to create more opportunities for young people to find Jesus. This is done in a variety of ways, including school/sixth form work, after school clubs and evening groups – as well as detached/outreach events and larger gatherings; joining in with the larger work of Youth for Christ on the island.

With the aim to reach every age and stage, we have the younger demographic with our Rock Solid group, before the slighter older ‘clusters’ groups. For the newer believers we run Alpha and a follow on group from that called ‘Never Alone’. The older deeper discipleship group we call ‘SAS’, that space where emerging young leaders can grow on the calling God has given them. 

The project’s big long-term vision is to see the 3000 young people (10-19 yr olds) that live in Newport to receive the Gospel and to be discipled as a Jesus-follower. Working with the Newport churches, we aim to eventually see something for ‘every age and stage’ so that there is a place for every young person in this town to be met in their faith journey.
